You need the details from your driving licence less often than the details of your vehicle, but when you do need them, you usually need them right away. Reporting a claim, hiring a car, a form you are filling in somewhere, a category you cannot recall.
And the scenario is almost always the same: the licence is in another jacket, another bag, or in a car parked three streets away.
You do not copy anything out
Faar does not ask you to type in the licence number, the dates and the categories. You photograph the front, then the back, and FaarAI reads the details off the photo itself.
Once it has, the details are shown to you to look over. It is worth doing — reading from a photo works well, but a busy document, glare off the plastic or poor light can change something. If anything is wrong you correct it there and save.
If the reading fails, the app tells you and asks for a clearer photo, rather than quietly saving half the details.
A reminder before it expires
A driving licence has an expiry date that is even easier to forget than your registration, because it comes round every ten years. Alongside the licence you can turn on an expiry reminder: Faar tells you 30 days ahead — in the app, by email and by notification.
Thirty days is enough to book an appointment and gather what you need, without a scramble in the final week.
This is not a replacement for the licence
Important and worth being clear about: under Croatian law you must always carry your physical driving licence while driving. A photo in the app is not an official document and will not satisfy the police.
What it is good for is having the details to hand when you need them to fill something in, and not leaving the expiry date resting on your memory alone.
When you would rather not keep it
You can delete the licence from the app whenever you like, along with everything read from it. The record is yours, and that includes the right to remove it.
Alongside your other documents
The licence sits with the rest of what you already keep in Faar — the vehicle logbook, policies, services and dates. The idea is that for anything to do with driving or the vehicle, you never have to think about where you wrote it down.
